3rd round down and it's Colon Cancer Awareness Month - 3-13-23
It seems crazy that we are 3 rounds into chemo now. He goes for his unhook tomorrow, and I think we finally have his nausea under control.
He will do at least 6 months of treatment as that is the standard protocol for advanced colon cancer. Then we see.
We pray daily that chemo kills cancer cells and that God protects his healthy cells. We ask that you pray for his body to make more white blood cells, as those are low, and we almost had to skip this round of chemo due to that.
His next CT scan will be at the beginning of May. The scan will give us more knowledge of how his body responds to the chemo. Then we will speak with his liver surgeon and find out the next steps, which might be resecting the liver or continuing the chemo regimen.
We don't know why colon cancer is rising among young people. Unfortunately, when young people are diagnosed, it is not in the early stages because colonoscopies aren't routine if you are under 45. We need to change that. Colon cancer is also slow-growing and could have been found if proper testing had been done earlier.
All this to say, you have to be an advocate for yourself. No one knows your body as you do, so pay attention when things don't feel right and see a doctor. And if you don't like their answer - find a new doctor or push for what you think you need.
Go for your annual physical so you have a baseline for blood work and push to find out why when results come back abnormal.
