The day after chemo 2-14-23
The infusion went well in the cancer center. We saw our new friends Amy and her husband at the infusion center, as her husband is a few months ahead of Zach in treatments for the same type of cancer.
One of the side effects of this chemo is neuropathy in your hands and feet, and Amy had extra booties for Zach to use. She has also been so kind in being a guide for us during this time. She has answered so many questions, talked on the phone with me, and listened. She also picked up lunch yesterday for us while we sat with his hands on ice and feet in ice booties.
Another side effect is nausea, which showed up yesterday evening. It was crazy how fast it came on. We eventually got that under control. For anyone who didn't know you need the Zofran that dissolves under the tongue. The on-call doctor told us that swallowing the anti-nausea pills could cause nausea. Eventually, he felt better and ate dinner before we went to bed.
As I was reflecting on this journey we are on last night, many people refer to the spouse or person helping to care for someone who is going through medical things as a "caregiver". However, I don't love the word because I am his wife, and we are more of a team now than we ever were before.
Yes, I am providing minor medical care to Zach, but I am his wife, and God calls us to serve one another. At this time I am being called to serve my husband in new ways.
Romans 12:10
"Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves." Each day brings a new way to serve. I am grateful that God chose Zach for me. -Amber
