How we found out:
Zach was having stomach pains for a few months and went to his PCP and suggested a low-fat diet and getting an ultrasound thinking he could be having some gallbladder issues.
The ultrasound showed a mass in his liver and we were told on November 2nd, our son's 8th birthday, and was told we should get him an MRI. That was rescheduled multiple times due to Jefferson Radiology messing things up and not scheduling him at the correct location. Then they told me they wouldn't be able to get him in until November 28th and that was unacceptable to me.
After MANY calls back and forth we finally got him in on November 15th and had to wait another 7 days for results. I called to get an update and Jefferson Radiology hung up on me telling me there is nothing they could do. We left Jefferson Radiology with a copy of the scans and I mailed them to a radiologist in AZ that we know and he read them for us and told us the news on November 18th that no one wants to hear. Zach has two tumors in his liver and 2 smaller lesions in his liver and what looks like a tumor on the right side of his colon.
We were able to get a colonoscopy consult appointment on November 28th and he came in early today, 11/30, to fit Zach in. He confirmed the news that Zach and I suspected which was a cancerous looking tumor in his cecum that has a 50% circumference around the wall of the cecum. We should be getting the preliminary news on a cancer early next week and then they will do additional testing to determine the exact kind.
The next steps are a CT scan of the full abdomen, biopsy of the liver tumor to see if it matches the same cancer in the colon and getting into Memorial Sloan Kettering in NYC.
This is all we know for now. Please pray for complete healing of his mind, body and soul and that the Holy Spirit fills us with peace, joy and endurance.
