Here we go 5-10-23
The news isn't what we hoped for, and we are sad.
There are mixed changes in the liver.
1 tumor is new
1 tumor increased
1 tumor decreased
1 went away
He has three tumors in the liver now, and the new and increasing one is concerning. The MSK oncologist is suggesting moving to a different chemo called FOLFIRI. She wants to start it on Monday at his 6th chemo treatment.
We are trying to speak with the medical oncologist he sees at Hartford Healthcare for an opinion on the chemo portion.
We are still waiting to speak with the liver surgeon about his approach to the tumors and if there is an option for targeted liver therapy.
We are also in the process of getting a 2nd opinion from MD Anderson in Huston, TX. This would require us to travel for an initial appointment and be there for 3-5 days to meet doctors and see what they recommend for him.
Here are the hard truths about colon cancer
1. Most people with metastatic colon cancer are on chemo for the rest of their life.
2. 15% of people with metastatic colon cancer make it to 5 years.
These stats aren't good. But it is good to pay attention to your body and how it feels. Don't put off your cancer screenings, and if something feels off, fight for yourself to get the tests you need.
After long conversations with Zach, I have decided to close my photography studio at the end of August or September. This decision has been challenging, but it is the best decision for my family. I will still do photography, but on location for clients.
If you are a client reading this with a session booked, please do not be alarmed - I will be in touch.
We are blessed by our families, friends, ESPN, and my clients. We so appreciate your support.
