The journey continues... 10-25-23
Yesterday we made our way to Houston again. Mid flight we were informed that we would be diverted to Austin due to the Houston Hobby Airport being closed.
This created a small issue for Zach getting blood work done for a procedure he is having today.
With no info on when Hobby would be opening we rented a car and drove the 2.5 hours to Houston, slept fast, and then we arrived this morning at 6:15am for blood work and then an IR (interventional radiology) appointment at 8am.
This IR appointment is to place a small metal marker in a spot in the left side of the liver where there is a very small tumor that the surgeon couldn’t see/find on his first resection surgery, and he wants to make sure he removes it on Friday when he removes the right side of his liver.
Over the last few CT scans we have watched a few concerning spots in his lungs. With the scan on 10/16 it does appear by the imaging that those are cancerous tumors in his lungs. They are very small, but they are there.
His liver surgeon is less concerned about them because lung metastasis is better controlled with systemic chemotherapy than liver metastasis. We have an appointment with a new medical oncologist here at MD Anderson on Monday the 30th and will have a better feel for what future treatment looks like the
That means liver metastasis drives the disease outcome. If we can clear the liver of tumors, the outcome is better.
One of the other sucky things about being gone this time is we won’t be there for Silas’s 9th birthday on November 2nd. Would you all make it special and send him a card?
If you need our address please send me a text and I will send it to you! 860-550-5454
We appreciate all your prayers and support.
